Elva Dean Jordan, 95, of Highsplint, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 26, 2013, in Lexington following a long illness. She was born November 27, 1917 in Harlan County and had lived here most of her life. Elva was a homemaker and a member of the Huff Settlement Baptist Church. She loved gardening, animals and her family who she cherished dearly.

Elva was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Jordan; her parents, Mose Dean and Nancy King Dean; two brothers, Lloyd and Noah Dean; four sisters, Laura King, Debbie Spicer, Betty Dombrowski and Ludie Witt.

Survivors include two children, Dorothy Ardith Pennington and husband, Louis, Closplint; and Royce Roger Jordan and wife, Sandy, Somerset; eight grandchildren, Bill, Terry and Travis Pennington, Vonda Marlowe, Eric Jordan, Kim Wooden, Craig Jordan and Taryn Feeley. Also surviving are 11 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren and her caregiver, Charles Hunt, Lexington.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 until 8 PM at the Evarts Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 1, 2013, at 2 PM in the Chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with the Reverend Frank Howard and Jay Pennington officiating.

Burial will follow in Evarts Memorial Gardens with grandsons and great-grandsons serving as pallbearers.
