Thelma L. Lay, 93 of Baxter passed away Sunday Feb. 10, 2013 at the Tri-Cities Nursing Home.

Mrs. Lay was born Feb. 28, 1919 in Harlan, KY to the late Joe & Elizabeth Long Nantz. She was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and was retired with over 41 years of service to the Harlan County Board of Education as a Teacher. After retirement she served as a substitute and volunteered at Loyall and Evarts Elementary Schools. She was a member of Baxter United Methodist Church for over 70 years.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, W.C. Lisenbee; second husband, Albert Lay; her son, Robert Lisenbee; sister, Alta Lisenbee.

She is survived by 2 loving children, Bill (Anne) Lisenbee of Rio Vista, Barbara (Lynn) Hickey of Baxter; 5 grandchildren, Carrie Heinz of Litchfield, KY, William “Tuffy” Sizemore of Cedar City, UT, Nathan Sizemore of Clarksville, TN, Beth Martin of Rossville, GA, and Scott Lisenbee of Harlan; 1 brother, Joe Nantz of Milwaukee, WI; 4 great grandsons and 6 great granddaughters; she leaves several nieces and nephews to mourn her passing.

Visitation will be 5 – 7:00 pm Tuesday Feb. 12, 2013 at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Kyle Burnette officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00 pm Wednesday Feb. 13, 2013 at the Park-Howard Cemetery at Wallins.

Scott Lisenbee, Jim Lisenbee, Lynn Hickey, Jeff Johnson, Brent Johnson, and Ed Harris will serve as Pallbearers.

Flowers are welcomed, but memorials are suggested to the Kentucky United Methodist Home for Children, PO Box 749 Versailles, KY 40383 or to Baxter United Methodist Church, 830 S. US Hwy 119, Baxter, KY 40806.
