Cora Ardella Murphy Gilliam, age 90 years, 3 months and 12 days, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 12, 2012, at the Rockcastle Hospital in Mt. Vernon, KY. She was born in Whitley County, KY on July 29, 1922 to the late Elijah and Esther Sumner Prewitt.

She was married to Ulas Bart Murphy on December 31, 1938 and from this union came four children, who richly blessed their home. She was a homemaker who spent her days loving and caring for her family.

She was a member of the Lynch Church of God, where she taught Sunday school to children for several years and was also active in the Ladies Willing Workers. She loved working in her flowers, gardening, making homemade bread and giving it to others, and working in her church.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children; Ulas Bart (Jane) Murphy of Rosepine, Louisana, George (Barbara) Murphy of Searcy, Arkansas, Barbara (Jim) McKnight of Brodhead, KY, and Sandra “Louise” and (Rick) Thompson, of Lindale, TX; her grandchildren, Belinda Morgan, Van Murphy, Shawn Murphy, Beverly Rabalosis, Aaron Murphy, Phillip Murphy, Joshua McKnight, Travis McKnight, Brandi Thompson and Ethan Thompson.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ulas Murphy; four brothers, Arnold Prewitt, Bill Prewitt, Ed Prewitt and Wesley Prewitt; six sisters, Mary Grantham, Retha Hollingswoth, Ida Towe, Grace Mullins, Thelma Benham, and Nora Caddell.

In 1996, she married Gus Gilliam and was blessed with three children, Bobbie (Earl) Gothard of Cumberland, KY, Betty (Richard) Wells of Crab Orchard, KY, and Richard (Marcia) Gilliam of Tallahassee, FL; seven wonderful grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by Gus Gilliam and one granddaughter, Angie Wells.

The family will receive friends in the Chapel of the Tri-City Funeral Home on Thursday, November 15, 2012, from 6 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held at the Lynch Church of God in Lynch, KY on Friday, November 16, 2012, at 1 pm with her Pastor Don Chavies, nephew, Reverend Charles Prewitt, and Johnny North officiating. Interment will follow in the Monte Vista Cemetery in Cumberland, KY. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Lynch Church of God.
