Green Dragons cruise in All ‘A’ opener

The Harlan Green Dragons stayed unbeaten on the season with a 15-5 victory over Lynn Camp in the first round of the 13th Region All ‘A’ Classic on Tuesday.

The Green Dragons struck first with a run in the first inning. Caleb Hogue started the offense with a walk. Hogue stole second and third base and scored on a single from Colby Wilson.

Lynn Camp took the lead with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. However, Harlan went back on top with three runs in the second inning.

Dylan McNiel reached base on a single. Corey Burns then walked. Hogue drove in both runners with a two-out single. Hogue stole second base and scored on a single from Wilson.

Lynn Camp took a 5-4 advantage with three runs in the third inning, but Harlan responded once again. The Dragons reeled off 11 runs in the next three innings to end the game.

Austin Miller singled to start the offense in the fourth inning. Hogue followed with a single of his own. Wilson then grounded out to drive in Miller. Abraham later reached base on an error at short to drive in two runs. Abraham scored on a Tye Patrick double.

Harlan scored four more runs in the fifth inning. Miller reached base on a one-out single. Marshall Ward followed with a single. Miller then scored on a throwing error. Wilson singled with two outs and Jordan Turbyfill delivered another single to drive in a pair of runs. Turbyfill stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch.

The Dragons closed the game out with three runs in the sixth inning. Patrick got on with a walk. McNiel then reached base on an error. Patrick scored on an error and McNiel crossed home on a Ward single.

Hogue and Wilson each had three singles to pace Harlan at the plate. Miller and Ward contributed two singles. Patrick recorded a double, and McNiel and Turbyfill each had a single.

Wilson struck out four batters, while allowing no hits and two walks in 2.1 innings in the start. Patrick recorded six strikeouts and gave up two hits in 3.2 innings to claim the win.

Harlan (4-0) returns to 13th Region All ‘A’ action today at Williamsburg.
