Editor,

Having family and friends still living in Harlan County, I have a concern of which area residents need to be aware.

AT&T began the official process of filing its intent of a petition with the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) that would destroy any protections for landline users in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Once this federal regulation is destroyed, your plain old landline phone service will no longer be available.

Harlan Countians need the use of their landline phones as a lifeline to medical and security calls for help.

Please let your political representatives know that they cannot allow AT&T to get approval to be free of any state consumerism protection that we currently have in Kentucky.
