Hoping that every young lady who wants to attend their prom or special occasion will have the opportunity, Cinderella’s Closet at Club 180 Ministries in Cumberland is giving away approximately 200 formal dresses, shoes and costume jewelry from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 9.

Club 180 Ministries Co-director Angie Burkeen said brand new and ever so slightly used dresses and accessories were donated from all across the country and the Tri-Cities area as well. She said the dresses range from size 0 to a women’s size 24.

“These dresses are beautiful,” said Burkeen. “A lot of them still have the price tags on them. We have short dresses, sequined dresses, all the way to full ballgown dresses. We have lots of costume jewelry such as earrings, necklaces and bracelets they can chose from. We also have clutches for them to carry and a large assortment of shoes from high-heeled to beautiful flats. All of this is free — no charge whatsoever.”

Burkeen said there will be a “significant” door prize given away during the event donated by Buff’s Bows and Gifts, in Cumberland. She said a young lady from Louisville will be on hand to give make-up tips and samples of makeup for the ladies to use for their special occasion.

“She will match their skin tones and show them how to apply their makeup to best accent their features,” said Burkeen. “A door prize will be given away entitling one young lady to have her done on the day of their event. Everyone who attends the event will receive a free gift.”

Burkeen said a lot of young ladies don’t have the opportunity to attend their proms or special occasions because of the economic situation in the county.

“Families just can’t afford the beautiful dresses the girls want to wear,” said Burkeen. “This is our third year hosting this event. In the last couple years the girls who have come and gotten dresses — when they put these dresses on you can just see it in their faces. They’re so excited they’re going to get to wear a beautiful ballgown and feel good about themselves. They know they’ll go and have a good time that evening and be beautiful. That’s why we call it Cinderella’s Closet.”

Cinderella’s Closet is located at 503 Main Street in Cumberland. For more information, you may call 606-733-0920 or visit their website at www.club180ministries.com.
