A mudslide on KY 38 resulted in a crash that sent two men to the hospital.
According to a press release from the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a single vehicle collision on KY 38 just east of Evarts late Monday. Bryan Robbins of LeJunior appeared to have been traveling west in a red 1992 Toyota Tacoma. A mudslide had occurred, which resulted in several trees blocking the roadway. The vehicle collided with the trees, causing the vehicle to ignite.
The press release states the Evarts Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. Robbins and Tommy McMillon, a passenger in the vehicle, were transported by Lifecare Ambulance Service to Harlan ARH hospital where they were flown by helicopter to Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, Tenn. Robbins is listed in stable condition. No information was available on McMillon.
The incident is under investigation by Harlan County Sheriff’s Deputy and Accident Reconstructionist Danny Lewis. Lewis was assisted at the scene by Deputy Matt Cope, the Evarts Police Department and Harlan County Emergency Management Director David McGill. The Kentucky Transportation cabinet also responded and removed the trees and other debris from the roadway.
