A non-denominational “Fire on the Mountain” community revival is scheduled for March 1-3 at the Harlan Center.

The event is open to any and all congregations. It is not sponsored by a single church or denomination.

“The Friday and Saturday nights of the event will begin at 7 p.m. and the Sunday afternoon service will begin at 2 p.m.,” said Harlan Christian Church Pastor Jeff Noah. “Not only is there a need for revival, but a lot of times people go through the doldrums during the winter months. They have sickness because of the cold weather and they haven’t been able to get out.”

Speaking Friday night will be Dr. David Faust, president of Cincinnati Christian University.

Faust served as faculty there for many years and also served as pastor in large churches in Indianapolis, Ind., and New York state. He was editor of “Christian Standard” magazine for several years.

He has written several books on church leadership and Christian development.

A keynote speaker at many national conferences and conventions, Noah said Faust has “a very humble spirit.”

The Saturday night and Sunday afternoon speaker will be retired pastor Bob Russell, who pastored at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville for 40 years.

A coveted speaker across the globe, Russell has spoken not only at the independent Christian conferences and conventions, but also Baptist and Church of God. He’s written several books.

Noah said Russell has now “dedicated his life to helping train pastors and help churches with whatever they need to be done.”

Noah said the event is being held to not only boost, renew and revive people spiritually, but to encourage churches across the county and surrounding areas to “do more with each other.” He said this is an opportunity to build unity and relationships so that every church may work together in the future.

“Everyone is really excited about this event, saying let’s do this,” said Noah. “Maybe this is something we can do more often. Letters and phone calls have been sent and made to churches… such as Winchester, Richmond, Berea, Bristol, Tenn., and communities in Virginia along with every church in Harlan County, inviting them to make plans to attend. We’re hoping everyone will get the word about this event and want to come and be a part of it.”

Noah said each night different pastors will read scriptures and lead the group in prayer.

He said there will be a worship team doing a mixture of contemporary and traditional music.

“We hope maybe some groups from different churches will also provide special music,” said Noah. “We want as many people involved as possible. Child care will be available for anyone who needs this service. We’ll also have time for those who just want to come down and have a season of prayer, have someone pray for them for healing for themselves, their child or someone else or if people want to make a decision for Christ. How ever the spirit moves is what we will allow.”
