John Scott, age 82 of Speedwell, TN, formerly of Cumberland, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013, at the Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Healthcare. He was born August 21, 1930 to the late Luther and Nora Ison Scott in Letcher County, KY. John worked 35 years in the coal mining industry and served in the United States Army.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Delmar Scott, and sisters, Imogene Burton and Ruby Cress.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Mullins Scott; children, Randy (Katrina) Scott of Knoxville, TN and Libby (Roy) Stephens of Lynch; brothers, Homer Scott of Cumberland, Jimmy Scott of Lynch, George Scott of Burnside, KY, and Arnold Stidham of Louisville, KY; sister, Christine Board of Cumberland; grandchildren, Ryan Boggs, Amanda Scott, Nick Cornett, Terrance Stephens and Carlee Stephens; great grandchild, Hunter Boggs; and a host of family and friends.
The family will receive friends at Tri City Funeral Home chapel in Benham, KY on Thursday, January 17, 2013, between 6 – 9 pm. Funeral services will be held in the chapel on Friday, January 18, 2013, at 2 pm with the Reverend Michael Blair and Reverend Ronnie Hampton officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Cumberland with the Cumberland VFW Post 5171 performing military rites at graveside.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
