Man arrested for theft by deception

A Wallins Creek man faces theft charges after allegedly cashing a total of six cold checks at a local business in April 2011. Brian Gross, 34, was arrested on Sunday by the Harlan City Police Department on six counts of theft by deception, including cold checks.

According to a complaint filed in the Harlan County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office on Monday, Gross cashed cold checks totaling $3,153.25 at Mack’s Supermarket in Harlan.

The warrant shows Gross was charged with three felony counts of theft by deception including cold checks under $10,000 and three misdemeanor counts of theft by deception including cold checks under $500.

Gross was arrested by officer Hunter Luttrell and transported to the Harlan County Detention Center on a $4,000 at 10 percent bond.

In other police activity:

* David Hall, 23, of Baxter, was arrested by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office on Monday on two counts of possession of a controlled substance. Hall was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond;

* Covey Lewis, 41, of Bledsoe, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000 by Kentucky State Police on Monday. Lewis was booked into the Harlan County Detention Center;

* Logan Lewis, 37, of Big Laurel, was arrested by Kentucky State Police on Monday and charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000 and contempt of court resistance to order. Lewis was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.
