Several open houses scheduled Tuesday

Evarts Elementary School will host a “Back-to-School” Open House from noon to 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Free prizes, food and games will be provided. New students may also enroll during this time.

James A. Cawood Elementary School will host an open house from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Teachers will be available to meet with parents and students. The office will also be open to accept new students.

Open House/Orientation for Harlan County Christian School will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the school.

This includes all grades from Kindergarten through high school.

Wallins Elementary School will host their annual open house from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday.

All parents and students are encouraged to attend.

Boys & Girls Club rummage sale planned

The Cawood Ledford Boys & Girls Club’s huge rummage sale will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday at the Boys & Girls Club in Fairview.

There will be clothing, electronics, computers, home decor, craft supplies, furniture and much more. All proceeds go to benefit the children of Harlan County.

Neighborhood watch meeting slated Monday

If you would like to make your neighborhood a safer place to live, attend a neighborhood watch meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday at Evarts Methodist Church (next to Evarts High School).

Speakers from county and city law enforcement agencies will be attending with information about setting up watch programs for all of the Clover Fork area.

Boys Choir Alumni to present summer concert

The Harlan Boys Choir Alumni will present a summer concert featuring Randall Thompson’s “A Testament of Freedom” at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 13 at Harlan United Methodist Church.

The choir is under the direction of David Davies, accompanied by Marilyn Schraeder. There is no charge attend.

Weekly bookmobile schedule announced

The Harlan County Bookmobile schedule for the week of Aug. 6 includes:

Monday — Comprehensive Care Center and Cranks.

Tuesday — Barney’s Store (11 a.m. to noon), Pansy, Gulston, Mary Alice, Teetersville and the Laurels.

Wednesday — Pine Mountain, Pine Mountain Settlement School and Big Laurel.

Thursday — Brittains Creek and Dizney.

Friday — Eastbrook Station, High Rise and the Dialysis Clinic.
