Deputy involved in bypass crash

A Harlan County sheriff’s deputy was involved in a crash Friday that involved his police vehicle. Harlan City Police Cpl. Jeff Owens said deputy Travis Freeman was traveling north on the U.S. 421 Bypass in a 2010 Ford Explorer. Cayla Ison, of Harlan, was exiting Mound Street onto the bypass in a 1999 Mitsubishi Galant when the two vehicles collided. Ison was transported to Harlan ARH Hospital by Harlan EMS for treatment. Freeman was not injured. Ison was cited to court on nine violations that included no operators license, no registration plates, no registration receipt, improper display of registration plates, improper equipment, improper registration plate, failure to produce insurance card, failure to maintain insurance and failure to register transfer of motor vehicle.
