Woman gets 10 years in drug trafficking case

Several people were sentenced in Harlan Circuit Court on Thursday that were part of a countywide drug roundup in February targeting over 50 people on drug trafficking charges.

Carol Grubbs, 51, of Cawood, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on two counts first-degree trafficking a controlled substance. A charge of being a persistent felony offender was dismissed.

Harlan Circuit Court Judge Russell Alred also ordered Grubbs to pay $320 in restitution to Operation UNITE.

In other court action:

-- Tice Henry Grubbs, 32, of Cranks, was sentenced to eight years in prison on a charge of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance. A charge of being a persistent felony offender was dismissed.

Alred said this case will run consecutively with his 2005 case.

-- Ronnie Hodge, 53, of Cumberland, was sentenced to 10 years on two counts first-degree trafficking a controlled substance. Hodge was also ordered to pay $370 in restitution to Operation UNITE.

-- Mark Shoemaker, 42, of Tremont, was sentenced to a pre-trial diversion for five years on charges of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

-- Christopher A. Fultz, 27, of Liggett, was sentenced to three years in prison on an amended charge of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, third-degree trafficking a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence and resisting arrest.

-- Lonnie Collins, 33, of Rosspoint, was sentenced to a pre-trial diversion for five years on charges of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia.

-- Derek Middleton, 25, of Cawood, was sentenced to five years in prison on a charge of second-degree rape.

Alred told Middleton that a pre-trial diversion for three years would be entered after he has served six months in jail.

-- Worthy Williams, 25, was sentenced to two years in prison on a charge of theft by unlawful taking of property valued over $300.
