A native of Cumberland, Coots had lived in this area all of his life. He was a former police officer with Benham, Cumberland and the sheriff's department. Coots believed in the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Mary Fields Coots; and a brother, Virgil Coots Jr.
Survivors include four children: Melissa Turner, Cumberland; Joyce Miniard, Cumberland; Charlie Coots, London; and Jack Coots, Cumberland; one brother, Charles Coots, Cumberland; one sister, Joyce McQueen, Cumberland; and six grandchildren.
Visitation is today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Tri-City Funeral Home in Benham.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Garland Smith officiating.
Burial will follow in Creech Cemetery at Blair.
David McQueen, Estil Turner, Cody Wagoner, David Miniard, Harrison McQueen and Rick Cope will serve as pallbearers.
