High water may have delayed the discovery of a Closplint man following a fatal crash Sunday.
Troopers from the Kentucky State Police post in Harlan and volunteers with the Harlan County Rescue Squad discovered the body of 25-year-old Jason Seiber around 8 p.m. Sunday in the waters of Clover Fork near Allentown.
According to a statement from Kentucky State Police Trooper Jason Young, Seiber's body was found about two miles downstream from his 1981 GMC pickup truck around 8:45 p.m. Sunday.
Young said Seiber was traveling west on KY 38 when he apparently crossed into the east-bound lane and ran off the road.
The truck overturned and came to rest in the river.
Harlan County Coroner Philip Bianchi said the truck was mostly covered with water at the time of its discovery.
"There was a lot of rain this weekend," Bianchi said. "Most of the truck was submerged."
After reaching the vehicle, emergency workers discovered no one inside, and a search began after the truck was moved.
Young said Seiber was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected in the crash.
The body has been sent to Frankfort for an autopsy, and Bianchi expects to have the preliminary results in a few days.
The crash is still under investigation.
