Leonard Stanley, 96, Harlan, died April 21, 2004, at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital.

A native of Harlan County, he was a member of the DAV and the Baxter Church of God.

He was a retired laborer for L & N Railroad.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jane Ayers Stanley; three wives, Hazel Laxton, Viola Boggs Stanley and Louise Hensley Stanley; two children, Beatrice Lawson and Margaret Johnson; one sister, Glynna Gervais; and two brothers, Bill Stanley and Fred Stanley.

Survivors include seven children, Ella Leath and husband, King, Wallins; Jean Middleton, Harlan; Ken Stanley, Harlan; Ben Stanley and wife, Marilyn, Harlan; Dillard Stanley and wife Sara, Harlan; James Stanley and wife, Oma, Tennessee; and Arthur Burke, Indiana; four stepchildren, Shirley Osborne and husband, Bill; Leroy Saylor and wife, Avonna; Frank Saylor and wife, Lana; and Lucille Trail and husband, Charles, Wallins; one sister, Blanche Sowders, Lexington; one special niece, Lisa Cornett and husband, Tim; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation is today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Keith officiating.

Burial will follow in the New Creech Cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mount Pleasant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
