LYNCH — Joe Iva Washington, age 85 of Lynch KY, entered eternal life at St. Joes Hospital on Monday, January 04, 2016. Joe worked as a coal miner for U.S. Steel Corporation and was a member of the Goode Temple AM.E. Zion Church.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Julia Constant Washington, and father, Tommy Johnson; children, George Washington, Yvonne Young, Evangelist Donna Cockrel, and Carol Hooks-Henley; brother, Elmer Washington; sisters, Catherine Walthall, Robbie Mae Moody, Josephine Hopkins, Georgia Lovett, Annie Thompson, and Jaquata Yates.
Survivors are his wife of 65 years, Reedius Anderson Washington; sons, Pastor Joe (Youlanda) Washington, Jr. of Radcliffe, KY and Rev. Darryl (Paulette) Washington of Verda; daughters, Joetta Gist of Lynch, Andrea (Tony) Taylor of Independence, KY, Minister Renita Jo Washington of Centerville, OH, Danielle (Ken) Yates of Bedford, OH, and Celeste Washington of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Leverne Washington of Chagrin Falls, OH and William (Jennifer) Washington, Jr. of Bedford Heights, OH; daughter-in-law, Sheila (widow of George Eric) Washington of Evansville, IN; son-in-law, Herman (widower of Carol) Henley of Dayton, OH; 15 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many other family and friends.
The family will receive friends at the Greater Mount Sinai Church, 409 1st Street, Lynch, KY on Saturday, January 09, 2016, between 11 am – 1 pm. Funeral services will begin at 1 pm with the Reverend Ronnie Hampton, Reverend Darryl Washington, and Pastor Joe Washington officiating. Interment will follow in the Monte Vista Cemetery in Cumberland, KY.
Serving as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons and great grandsons.
