Kameron Turner provided the pitching, Kendra Hubbard supplied the power and Jada Estep created havoc at the top of the order as the Leslie County Lady Eagles closed one of the best regular seasons in school history with a 8-0 win at Harlan on Thursday.

Estep had three singles from the leadoff spot while adding a sacrifice fly and three runs scored. Hubbard pounded out a home run and two doubles to the fence, driving in two runs.

“We got a big lead and kind of let up, but we hit it pretty well early,” Leslie County coach Dana Coots said. “Kendra is hitting the ball real well now. I hope she keeps it up. Jada did a great job getting on base and getting us going.”

The Lady Eagles grabbed a 5-0 lead after three innings, more than enough for junior lefthander Kameron Turner, who limited the Lady Dragons to four hits while striking out four and walking only one.

“She pitched real well. We have two real good pitchers this year with Kameron Turner and Katie Johnson,” Coots said. “We’re lucky to have them.”

Ashley Overbay had a double to lead the Lady Dragons, who fell to 6-11. Jayda Young, Payton Bennett and Lydia Cassim added one single each.

“It seemed just about everything we hit was at somebody,” said Harlan coach Scott Lewis. “They made some plays, and we didn’t make all the plays. We turned some singles into runs.”

Overbay, one of the Lady Dragons’ top players, just returned from injury, and senior catcher Kaitlin Jenkins missed Thursday’s game due to a sore arm.

“We’ve had a couple quit and have some playing with injuries. They are doing the best they can do,” Lewis said. “We have to do the best we can with what we’ve got.”

Madison Brewer pitched a complete game for Harlan, striking out five and walking two.

Kailee Mullins and Madisyn Combs each added two singles for the 25-8 Lady Eagles, who lead the 14th Region in wins. Lyndsey Shepherd added one single.

Estep turned a single into three bases on a line drive that skipped past the Harlan outfielder to open the game. Mullins’ bunt brought in Estep.

Hubbard led off the second inning with a homer to center for a 2-0 lead.

Leslie scored three runs in the third inning as Estep and Mullins led off with singles. Pugh added an RBI single before Hubbard doubled home the final run of the inning.

Estep singled in the fourth inning and came all the way home on another error in the Harlan outfield.

Emily Griffith walked in the sixth inning, stole second and scored on Estep’s sacrifice fly.

Hubbard doubled in the seventh inning and scored the final run of the game when Shepherd’s grounder was turned into the fourth and final Harlan error.

Harlan plays host to Jenkins on Friday to close the regular season. Leslie County will play Buckhorn on Monday in the 54th District Tournament at Hazard.
