Brewer tosses shutout as HHS defeats Knox

The Harlan Lady Dragons broke a six-game losing streak that stretched back over a month with a 5-0 win Tuesday against visiting Knox Central.

Jesse Cochran drove in two runs and scored another while pounding out three hits to lead Harlan (6-8).

Madison Brewer and Kaitlin Jenkins added two singles each. Savanna Smith, Peyton Bennett and Sydney Horton added one single each.

Brewer pitched a two-hitter in her strongest effort of the season on the mound. The senior righthander struck out two and walked four.

Jayda Young walked to start the game, advanced to third on Smith’s hit and scored on Cochran’s ground out. Cochran scored on Bennett’s sacrifice bunt.

Jenkins singled to start the second inning and eventually scored on Alyssa Moses’ ground out.

Cochran singled in the third inning, stole second and scored on Brewer’s ground out.

Young walked in the sixth inning, moved up on Smith’s bunt and scored on Cochran’s single.

Harlan will travel to Jackson County on Friday and play host to Williamsburg on Saturday.

Jenkins scored six runs in the first inning and coasted to a win over the Lady Dragons on Monday at Jenkins..

Jenkins led Harlan with two singles. Young, Smith, Cochran and Brewer each contributed one single.

Brewer suffered the loss, giving up nine hits while striking out one and walking four.
