Harris, Brown lead New Harlan to win
New Harlan ran its record to 19-2 with a pair of middle school baseball victories.
Jay Harris pitched a complete game, giving up seven hits while striking out eight and walking six in a 12-4 win over Claiborne, Tenn.
Matt Brown led the New Harlan offense with a triple and single. Ben Landis contributed a double and single. Harris, Jacob Brown and James Gray added two singles each. Jordan Steele had a triple. Josh Turner added a double. James Chasteen contributed a single.
Elisha Smallwood gave up only one hit over five innings, striking out four and walking seven, as New Harlan edged Lee, Va., 6-5. Steele pitched one shutout inning with two strikeouts and one walk.
Steele led the Patriots’ offense with two doubles. Landis singled twice. Matt Brown, Jacob Brown and Gray added one single each.
Helton tosses 1-hitter as Yankees down Giants
Bryce Helton pitched a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts and no walks as the Yankees defeated the Giants 7-2 in recent Harlan Little League action.
Cory Bryant led the Yankees on offense with a triple. Caleb Brewer added a single.
Tristian Cooper had the only hit for the Giants with a double.
Cooper struck out nine and walked four in four innings on the mound. Ethan Caldwell struck out three and walked two in one inning.
Helton and Tristan West teamed on a no-hitter as the Yankees defeated the Braves 9-1. Helton and West each struck out three and walked one in two innings on the mound.
Tucker Ball had a double and Brewer added a single for the Yankees.
John Mark Bryson pitched a complete game for the Braves, striking out six and walking seven.
