HHS wins tennis showdown

The Harlan boys and Harlan girls were each 6-3 winners last week in a split match against Harlan County, with the girls competing at HCHS and the boys at Harlan.

Winners for the Harlan boys were Trevor Pryor, Logan Murray, Bobby Clark, Jimmy Zheng and Thomas Morgan. Logan Taylor-Drew Burnette won in doubles.

A Harlan County singles win was recorded by Logan Burris. Doubles winners were Burris-Trevor Prewitt and Ryan Sargent-Dillon Johnson.

Singles winners for the Harlan girls were Brooklyn Massingill, Lala Zheng, Mareesa Ahmad and Shianne Burgan. Doubles winners for Harlan were Massingill-Ahmad and Zheng-Burgan.

Harlan County singles winners were Madison Bailey and Hannah Gaw. Bailey-Gaw also won in doubles.

The Harlan boys host Barbourville on Monday in 13th Region Tournament play. The Harlan girls host Whitley County in the first round of regional play on Thursday.

The Harlan County boys play at Clay County on Monday in the 13th Region Tournament.

In previous action, Harlan defeated Clay County 9-0 on March 23. Singles winners were Boone Allison, Bitty Foster, Trevor Pryor, Logan Murray, Bobby Clark and Jimmy Zheng. Drew Burnette-Logan Taylor, Andrew Simpson-Damien Vance and Hunter Morgan-Thomas Morgan were doubles winners.

The Harlan girls lost 7-2. Shianne Burgan and Alli Thompson were singles winners for HHS.

The Harlan girls lost 9-0 and the boys lost 6-3 to Middlesboro on March 25. Allison and Murray won in singles and Foster-Pryor won in doubles.

The Harlan girls avenged a loss to North Laurel with a 5-4 win on March 26, capped by a thrilling with Massingill-Ahmad claiming a doubles win. Zheng-Burgan also won in doubles, with Burgan, Zheng and Pryor winning in singles.

The Harlan boys lost 8-1 with Clark-Zheng the lone winner for HHS in doubles.
