Lady Dragons hang on for win over Lynn Camp

Playing their first game in 13 days, the Harlan Lady Dragons appeared headed for an easy win with a 13-6 lead going into the sixth inning Tuesday at Lynn Camp.

The Lady Cats scored three runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, but Harlan held on for a 13-12 win to improve to 3-2 on the season.

Senior catcher Kaitlin Jenkins led a 13-hit Harlan attack with four singles. Jesse Cochran and Ashley Overbay had two singles each. Jayda Young tripled. Madison Brewer, Payton Bennett, Sidney Horton and Brooklyn Collins added one single each.

Brewer earned the win on the mound, striking out six and walking three in a complete-game effort.

Cochran singled to start the second inning, advanced to third on Bennett’s single, then scored on Sidney Horton’s ground out. Bennett scored on Jenkins’ single. Young tripled home Jenkins.

A six-run third inning started with an Overbay single. She stole second and score on a passed ball. Horton singled home both Cochran and Bennett. Collins and Jenkins also had hits and scored.

Bennett walked to start the fourth inning and scored on Jenkins’ singled to center.

Savannah Smith walked in the fifth inning and scored on a hit by Brewer. Horton walked and Collins reached on an error, and both scored on Overbay’s hit.

Harlan (3-2) returns to action Thursday at home against Barbourville.
