Turner, Harris lead Patriots over Union

Led by a homer and double by seventh-grade shortstop Josh Turner, New Harlan defeated Union, Va., 6-3 in recent middle school baseball action.

Jay Harris pitched a complete game for the Patriots, giving up three hits while striking out 10 and walking three.

Harris also had a good day at the plate with a double and single. Jordan Steele added a double. Matt Brown, James Gray and Layne Jones added one single each.

Harris threw a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and two walks as New Harlan blanked Middlesboro 7-0.

Harris and James Chasteen paced the New Harlan offense with two singles each. Steele had a triple. Brown, Turner, Jones and Gray contributed one single each.

New Harlan (7-2) fell 12-1 to Letcher Central. Jones, Gray and Steele each had singles for the Patriots.

Harris pitched three shutout innings with six strikeouts and a walk. Steele gave up five runs in one inning and Chasteen allowed seven in an inning.
