The Harlan County girls were winners Thursday in a meet at Leslie County. The Lady Bears finished with 97 points, four ahead of Knott Central. North Laurel was third with 89 points, followed by Leslie County with 83, Oneida Baptist with 44, Red Bird with 19, Jackson with 11 and Clay County with five.

Oneida Baptist was the winner in the boys competition with 114 points, followed by North Laurel with 98, Leslie County with 90, Clay County with 66, Harlan County with 52, Knott Central with six, Jackson with five and Red Bird with one.

“I’m proud of our teams tonight, picking up a win is always a good thing and I’m hopeful that we will gain confidence from it as we move forward,” Harlan County coach Ryan Vitatoe said. “We are definitely stronger on both sides of our program, but we still have a lot of clean up to do in order to reach our goals we’ve set at the beginning of the season. I think we would’ve finished a little higher on the boys side had we been able to finish the meet (we were unable to run the 2 mile and 4×400 due to lightning). I like where we’re at right now, but we have a lot of work to do before May 13.”

Kali Nolan led the Lady Bears to the win, placing first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 54.41. She teamed with Katelyn Johnson, Phebe McHargue and Reanna Middleton to win the 4 x 100 relay with a time of 58.03.
