Panthers rout HCHS in opener

Knox Central staked its claim as a regional contender by opening the season with an 8-1 win Thursday at Harlan County.

The Panthers jumped on Harlan County starter Gage Burkhart for four runs in the first inning and pushed ther lead to 6-0 after three innings.

Seth Hill allowed only one hit in three hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Jacob Collins gave up two hits and one run in three innings with four strikeouts and two walks. Jacob Nelson allowed one hit in one inning with one strikeouts.

The Bears were limited to four hits by three Knox Central pitchers. Cameron Nease, Trey Early, Dylan Cornett and Sean Johnson each had one single.

Seth Hill allowed only one hit in three hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Jacob Collins gave up two hits and one run in three innings with four strikeouts and two walks. Jacob Nelson allowed one hit in one inning with one strikeout.

Trevor Sanborn and Jaxon Stewart each had two hits for the Panthers. Jacob Nelson contributed a triple. Evan Lay, Brayden Imel and Jacob Collins had one hit each.

Harlan County (0-1) returns to action Monday at home against Corbin.

Harlan’s game scheduled for Friday at South Laurel was postponed due to wet field conditions. The Green Dragons are scheduled to play Lynn Camp and Owsley County on Saturday at Lynn Camp.
