Wallins stormed back from an 11-point deficit after three quarters, outscoring Rosspoint 14-2 in the final period, to edge the Wildcats 34-33 in the semifinals of the fifth- and sixth-grade county tournament on Monday at James A. Cawood Elementary School.
Carl Pacholewski scored nine of his game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter to lead the comeback. Luke Cottrell added nine points for the Purple Devils, including five in the opening period as Wallins took a 7-4 lead.
Thomas Jordan, who led Rosspoint with 11 points, hit two 3-pointers in the third quarter as the Wildcats outscored Wallins 13-5 to built a 31-20 lead.
The top-seeded Devils will play preseason favorite Cumberland in the championship game on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Jordan Akal, who missed several games with a broken hand, scored 28 points off the bench in only his second game back from the injury to lead Cumberland to a 43-27 win.
Black Mountain led 6-4 after one quarter, but Akal exploded for all 13 of Cumberland’s points in the second quarter as the Redskins built a 17-11 lead at halftime.
Akal and Kris Cornett each hit 3-pointers and Jonah Swanner added two baskets as the Redskins stretched their advantage to 30-17 by the end of the third quarter.
Wallins will play Black Mountain for third place on Tuesday at 5:30. Cumberland and Wallins will play for the championship at 7 p.m.
