Elliott powers Trojans to 2-OT win over Skins

Jerry Elliott poured in 22 points as James A. Cawood won a 45-43 double-overtime seventh- and eighth-grade game Tuesday at Cumberland.

Jay Harris added 12 points for the Trojans.

Josh Swanner scored 13 to lead Cumberland. Dakota Shepherd and Dylan Robinson added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Jonah Swanner led Cumberland to a 41-22 win in the fifth- and sixth-grade game as he scored 23 points. Jaiden Gist added 13 points.

Wesley Jennings and Tristan Cooper led JACES with eight points each.

James A. Cawood is scheduled to play host to Evarts on Thursday. Cumberland closes its season Monday at Wallins.

Taulbee’s basket lifts Black Mountain to win

Isaac Taulbee hit a 15-foot jumper in the closing seconds to put Black Mountain ahead to stay on the way to a 43-40 double-overtime win Tuesday over visiting Green Hills in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.

Jamey Hughes led the Tigers with 16 points. Taulbee added 10.

Caleb Ashley paced Green Hills with 13 points. Andrew Hoskins and Dylan Gross added 12 each.

Austin Tindell scoed 11 points and Jayden Ward added 10 as Black Mountain (13-5 overall, 11-2 county) won 37-17 in fifth- and sixth-grade action.

Andrew Hensley scored 14 to pace the Falcons.

Green Hills won 6-4 in a fourth-grade game as Austin Crain led the Falcons with four points.

Black Mountain will close its regular season schedule Thursday at home against Wallins. Green Hills is scheduled to play host to Pineville on Thursday.

Smallwood, Spurlock lead Purple Devils past Comets

Elisha Smallwood scored 22 points and Taylor Spurlock contributed 19 as Wallins (16-0 overall, 12-0 county) rolled past visiting Cawood 54-29 on Tuesday in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball.

Jacob Engle and James Smith led Cawood with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Carl Pacholewski scored 17 points and Carter Howard added 12 as Wallins won 38-30 in fifth- and sixth-grade action.

Ethan Rhymer scored nine and Dylan Hicks added eight to pace the Comets.

Wallins is scheduled to close its season Thursday at Black Mountain. Cawood will travel to Rosspoint on Thursday.
