Even with a coaching career that spans back over 30 years, Harlan coach David Parks didn’t have to think long when someone asked if any of his teams had ever posted three wins in a 24-hour period.
“No,” said Parks, as he leaned back against the wall in his office below the Harlan High School gym after the Dragons had just posted a 46-31 win Tuesday night over visiting Thomas Walker, Va. “Kids are pretty resilient, but we may have been a little tired in this one. I know I am.”
Harlan started the win streak with a 64-45 victory Monday night at Rye Cove, Va., then knocked off Wolfe County 74-63 on Tuesday afternoon at Pineville in the Pine Mountain Classic.
“We played really well this afternoon,” Parks said. “We weren’t nearly as good tonight. We weren’t ready to play, but I’ll take the blame for it with the scheduling and everything else.”
Senior guard Drew Parks posted his fifth straight game in double figures, scoring 18 to lead the 8-6 Green Dragons. Kilian Ledford, a freshman forward, added 11 points.
Thomas Walker was led by Hunter Cope with 16 points and Austin Williams with 10.
Parks hit two 3-pointers in the opening quarter and Ethan Morton added one as the Dragons took an 11-10 lead after one quarter.
Junior forward Trent McKenzie scored five of his nine points in the second period as the Dragons extended their lead to 23-14 by halftime.
Parks added five more points in the third quarter as the Dragons moved out to a 35-25 lead.

The game was tied 12-12 after one quarter, but the Dragons held the Jackets to two points in the second quarter and built a 22-14 lead at the break.
