Boggs leads Cats to win over Skins

Christian Boggs scored 12 points, including 10 in the decisive third quarter, as Evarts rolled to a 44-26 win over visiting Cumberland in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action Tuesday.

Josh Swanner led the Redskins with 10 points.

Three players reached double figures as Cumberland improved to 12-0 in fifth- and sixth-grade action with a 48-27 win.

Jordan Akal scored 15 to lead the Redskins, followed by Jaeden Gist with 12 and Justin Moyers with 11.

Zach Potter led Evarts with 14 points.

Engle, Smith power Comets past Tigers

Jacob Engle and James Smith teamed for 39 points, with Engle scoring 20 and Smith adding 19, as Cawood overpowered visiting Black Mountain 51-25 in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action Tuesday.

Jamey Hughes paced the Tigers with eight points.

Black Mountain edged the Comets 31-27 in the fifth- and sixth-grade game as Austin Tindell scored 13 points and Jayden Ward added 11 for the TIgers.

Dylan Hicks led Cawood with 13 points.

Black Mountain plays host to Evarts on Thursday. Cawood returns to action Jan. 4 at home against Green Hills.

Devils down Rosspont as Smallwood scores 18

Wallins won for the third time in tjree tries against Rosspoint in a showdown of two of the county’s preseason favorites, defeating the visiting Wildcats 47-41 on Tuesday.

Elisha Smallwood scored 18 to lead the Devils. Devin Eldridge added 10.

Hunter Helton led Rosspoint with 17 points.

Wallins won 34-20 in the fifth- and sixth-grade game as Tanner Griffin paced the Devils with 16 points.

Cooper McHargue scored six points to lead Rosspoint.

Rosspoint returns to action Jan. 5 at home against James A. Cawood. Wallins plays host to Green Hills on Jan. 5.

Jerry Elliott scored 17 points and Jay Harris added 11 as James A. Cawood defeated visiting Green Hills 43-22 on Tuesday in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.

Andrew Hoskins scored 10 and Caleb Ashley contributed eight to lead Green Hills.
