Price scored 14 points in the freshman game as the Bears won 58-32, then scored 20 in the junior varsity game in a 72-55 win.

When he helped lead Harlan to the state tournament in 1993, Michael Jones was one of the state’s top point guards.

In his second year as head coach at Harlan County, Jones is making a habit of developing good point guards for the Black Bears.

Cameron Carmical was one of the top freshman point guards in the region two years ago and is a three-year starter on the varsity. Andrew Creech helped lead HCHS to the freshman regional title last season and is a key reserve this season.

Gabe Price looks like he is going to continue the trend.

Price put together back-to-back big games Thursday as Harlan County swept a freshman/junior varsity doubleheader from visiting Leslie County, scoring 14 as the Bears won 58-32 in the freshman game and pouring in 20 as HCHS won 72-55 in junior varsity action.

Alex Pace added 12 points for the Bears, who improved to 2-2 in freshman action.

Luke Lewis led Leslie County with 10 points.

Price hit six 3-pointers in the nightcap as Harlan County came out hot in building a 23-16 lead after one quarter and a 37-24 advantage at halftime.

Pace scored 14 and Michael Simpson added 12 for the 3-1 Bears.

Dean Bray, a junior guard, led Leslie County with 20 points.

Harlan County split a pair of games last week against Bell County, winning 61-52 in the junior varsity game and falling 55-47 in freshman action.

Jacob Branson scored 14 points and Joey Swanner added 12 to lead the HCHS junior varsity.

Ryan Lambin led the Bobcats with 13 points. Sawyer Brock and Ben Goodin scored 10 each.

Sawyer Brock and Lambdin led the Bobcats with 17 and 15 points, respectively, in the freshman game.

Harlan County was led by Price with 14 points and Pace with nine.
