Breanna Glover, a 5-foot-11 senior forward headed for Ole Miss, scored 34 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and had nine steals as she powered Glasgow to a 56-45 win Saturday over Harlan County in the Lexus Shootout Classic at Henry Clay.

Glover led a Glasgow defensive effort that caused 27 HCHS turnovers, leading to a 25-10 advantage in points off turnovers. Glasgow (3-0) also shot 26 free throws, compared to only 11 for the Lady Bears, who lost for the first time in three games.

Sophomore center Kaylea Gross scored 14 points to lead the Lady Bears, hitting seven of 10 shots from the field. Sophomore guard Rebecca Middleton added 11 points.

Glover, ranked second in the preseason in the 4th Region, put Glasgow ahead to stay with a big first quarter, scoring all but two of her’s teams points in the period as the Lady Scotties built an 18-12 lead.

Glasgow took its biggest lead at 14 points as Glover hit two free throws and then connected on a layup as the Lady Scotties led 29-15 with 2:30 left in the first half. HCHS cut the deficit to 10, but Glasgow scored the final four points of the half to go up 33-19.

The Lady Bears closed to within 10, at 41-31, by the end of the third quarter as Gross scored off a pass from Blair Green. The first of two Noah Canady 3-pointers got Harlan County as close as seven with 7:41 to play, and the Lady Bears were within six after a three-point play by Green followed by a basket from Gross with 2:05 left. The Lady Scotties put the game away with a 6-0 run, led by two layups from Glover.

Harlan County returns to action Monday at Knox Central.
