Black Bear Madness set

The Harlan County boys and girls basketball teams will be introduced Friday during Black Bear Madness.

The program will begin at 7 p.m. Players will be introduced and each team will go through drills and a short scrimmage.

The HCHS dance and cheer teams will also perform.

Admission is free.

Local high school basketball teams will tip off their seasons next week with the Southeastern Kentucky Conference Panorama. The schedule includes:

Nov. 23

Harlan County at Williamsburg G/B

Nov. 24

Harlan at Pineville B/G

Knox Central at Middlesboro G/B

Corbin at Bell County G/B

Nov. 25

Lynn Camp at Clay County G/B

The regular season will begin the week after Thanksgiving.

The Harlan County Lady Bears will open their season just like last year, against Clay County in a battle of 13th Region contenders on Nov. 30. The game, which will be played in Manchester this year, will start at 6 p.m. as the Clay County boys will follow with a game against Oneida Baptist. The Lady Bears will open their home slate on Dec. 3 against Pineville.

The Harlan Lady Dragons, picked as the preseason favorite in the 13th Region after back-to-back runner-up finishes, will play at North Laurel on Dec. 3. The Lady Jaguars are picked second in the region and beat Harlan last year.

The Harlan County Black Bears will open their season on Dec. 1 at Letcher Central. Both the Bears and Cougars are ranked among the top five teams in their respective regions. Harlan County will play Madison Southern on Dec. 5 at Jackson County in the PRTC Classic.

The Harlan Green Dragons will travel to Thomas Walker, Va., on Dec. 1 for their season opener. The Dragons will be at home on Dec. 3 against Rye Cove, Va.
