Smith, Engle lead Comets over Skins

James Smith and Jacob Engle teamed for 40 points as Cawood defeated visiting Cumberland 49-42 in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action Thursday.

Smith scored 24 points and Engle added 16.

Dakota Shepherd paced the Redskins with 15 points.

Jordan Akal scored 20 points and Jaedan Gist added 14 as Cumberland won 50-19 in fifth- and sixth-grade action.

Bradon Cox led Cawood with seven points.

Evarts claims victory over Black Mountain

Led by nine points from Michael Canterbury, Evarts defeated visiting Black Mountain 39-20 in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action Thursday.

James Chasteen led the Tigers with nine points.

Triston Cochran and Jayden Ward each scored 12 points as Black Mountain won 35-25 in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.

Zack Potter led Evarts with 11 points.

Black Mountain and Evarts return to action Saturday in a tournament at Harlan County High School.

Caldwell leads Falcons to a victory over Trojans

Ethan Caldwell scored nine points and Hunter Crain added seven as Green Hills defeated visiting James A. Cawood 26-25 in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action Thursday.

Tristan Cooper scored 12 and Wesley Jennings added 10 to pace the Trojans.

James A. Cawood won 53-34 in the seventh- and eighth-grade game as Jerry Elliott scored 22 and Jay Harris added 14 for the Trojans.

Andrew Hoskins paced Green Hills with 15 points.
