Led by 26 points from point guard Taylor Spurlock and 20 from center Elisha Smallwood, Wallins won a season-opening seventh- and eighth-grade showdown Tuesday at Rosspoint, downing the Wildcats 60-39.

Josh Turner, a seventh-grade guard, led Rosspoint with 12 points.

No information was submitted on the fifth- and sixth-grade game.

Both teams return action Saturday in the Grade School Black Bear Tournament at Harlan County High School.

to win over Tigers

James Smith scored 20 points and Jacob Engle added 17 as Cawood rolled to a 49-23 season-opening win Tuesday at Black Mountain.

Malachi Foster led Black Mountain with seven points.

Jayden Ward poured in 29 points as Black Mountain won 47-22 in fifth- and sixth-grade action

Black Mountain returns to action Thursday at Evarts. Cawood plays host to Cumberland on Thursday.

Evarts opens season

with win over Skins

Led by a balanced offensive attack, Evarts opened its season with a 44-28 win Tuesday at Cumberland in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.

Evan Aslinger led the Wildcats with 10 points. Mike Canterbury and Brad Milwee added eight points each.

Dakota Shepherd scored 12 to pace the Redskins.

Jaiden Gist scored 13 points as Cumberland won 42-16 in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.

Zack Potter led Evarts with 10 points.

Cumberland travels to Cawood on Thursday.
