Chris Jones | Daily Enterprise Evarts’ Aliyah Cloud was trapped by two Cumberland defenders in semifinal action from the fifth- and sixth-grade county tournament Monday at James A. Cawood. Cloud scored 13 points in the Lady Cats’ 47-15 win. Evarts will play Rosspoint on Tuesday in the championship game.

Through 20 games of the 2015 season, the Evarts Lady Cats have not been beat, or even challenged, but rarely have they been more dominant than Monday in the fifth- and sixth-grade county tournament semifinals.

Evarts raced to a 23-0 lead after one quarter, led by 10 points from guard Jaylin Smith, and was never threatened on the way to a 47-15 win over Cumberland in the opening game of the semifinals at James A. Cawood Elementary School.

Smith, who finished with a game-high 22 points, added 10 more in the third quarter as the Lady Cats outscored Cumberland 17-0.

Aliyah Cloud added 13 points for the 20-0 Lady Cats, who will play Rosspoint on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the championship game.

Rosspoint (12-5) advanced with a hard-fought 31-28 win over Cawood in Monday night’s nightcap.

Keely North scored 20 points to lead Rosspoint.

LeAnn Engle led Cawood with 17 points.

With Engle and Lauren Smith each scoring four points, Cawood took a 10-9 lead after one quarter. North had two baskets for Rosspoint and Samantha Goshen added a 3-pointer.

Cawood was limited to two points in the second period as Rosspoint took a 13-12 lead at the break on baskets by North and Chloe Shelton.

Two straight baskets by North, the Rosspoint center, pushed the Lady Cats’ lead to eight early in the third quarter. Cawood battled back to within four, at 22-18, by the end of the period.

A North putback gave Rosspoint a 29-22 lead with less than a minute to play, but Cawood made one last comeback. Smith’s 3-pointer pulled Cawood within two, and Engle had a chance to tie when she drew a foul with 10.8 seconds to play after a turnover. Engle hit the first shot but missed the second. Gracie Ewing grabbed the rebound and found Regan Jones for a layup to end the game.

Cawood (11-5) will play Cumberland (10-8) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the consolation game. The championship game will follow.
