Balanced attack helps Rosspoint claim win

Three Lady Cats reached double figures as Rosspoint rolled to a 45-25 win Monday at Cumberland in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.

Kiersten Hamm led Cumberland with nine points.

Jacey Lewis scored 12 for the Lady Cats, followed closely by Dixie Ewing with 11 points and Emily Long with 10.

Keely North scored 18 to lead Rosspoint to a 30-15 win in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.

Josalyn Lee led Cumberland with seven points.

Long scored 10 as Rosspoint (12-2) rolled past Green Hills 44-19 on Tuesday.

Elizabeth Howard led Green Hills with 10 points.

Gracie Ewing scored 10 as Rosspoint (10-4) won 30-10 in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.

Lilly Caballero led Green Hills with six points.

Wallins stays perfect with win over Cawood

Wallins moved within one win of a perfect regular season with a 45-11 win Tuesday over visiting Cawood.

The 16-0 Lady Devils were led by Whitney Wilson with 13 points and Hannah Wood with 10.

Courtney Grubbs scored six for Cawood (9-5).

Cawood broke a three-game losing streak with a 40-16 win in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.

Lauren Smith scored 17 points and LeeAnn Engle added 14 for the 10-4 Lady Comets.

Taytum Griffin led Wallins with 11 points.

Wallins closes its regular season schedule Thursday at Evarts.

Pairings set for county tourneys

The fifth- and sixth-grade county tournament will open Saturday at James A. Cawood Elementary School beginning at 10 a.m.

First-round games will include top-seeded Evarts (13-0) vs Green Hills (0-14) at 10 a.m. James A. Cawood (9-5) will play Cumberland (7-7) at 11:15 a.m. Rosspoint (10-4) will take on Black Mountain (4-10) at 12:30 p.m. Cawood (10-4) will play Wallins (2-11) at 1:45 p.m.

The semifinals will be held Monday at 5:30 and 7 p.m.. The consolation and championship games are set for Tuesday, beginning at 5:30.

The seventh- and eighth-grade tournaments opens Oct. 24 with four games at James A. Cawood Elementary. Top-seeded Wallins (13-0) will play Green Hills (0-14) at 10 a.m. Black Mountain (9-5) meets Evarts (5-8) at 11:15 a.m. Cawood (9-5) will play Cumberland (4-10) at 12:30 p.m. Rosspoint (12-2) meets James A. Cawood (3-11) at 1:45 p.m.
