Pats, Cats each have a game on Saturday

Chris Jones | Daily Enterprise New Harlan defensive end Jordan Steele brought down a Bell County ball carrier in middle school football action. Steele and the New Harlan defensive line have dominated during the Patriots’ eight-game winning streak going into the state playoffs. The 8-1 Patriots will play host to Hazard on Saturday at 1 p.m.


New Harlan and Evarts will be both be in action Saturday in the state middle school football playoffs.

New Harlan, seeded first in Region 4, will be at home to take on eighth-seeded Hazard at 1 p.m. at the James A. Cawood field. The 8-1 Patriots bring an eight-game winning streak into the game.

Evarts, seeded seventh at 7-2, will go on the road to play second-seeded Adams, in Prestonsburg, at 5 p.m.

The Evarts-Adams winner will play the Pikeville-Mountain View winner on Oct. 17 in the Region 4 semifinals.

New Harlan will be home next week with a win over Hazard and will play the Louisa-Shelby Valley winner in the semifinals.

The regional championship game is set for Bell County High School on Oct. 24.

The four region champions advance to the state final four in Lexington on Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
