With nine wins in their first 10 matches, the Harlan Lady Dragons made it to the halfway mark of the season without having to deal with adversity.
The Lady Dragons finally experienced a losing streak Saturday in the state All “A” Classic, falling to Bishop Brossart (25-3, 25-10), Presentation (25-7, 25-2), Caldwell County (25-9, 25-10) and Raceland (25-5, 25-9).
Harlan bounced back with a key district win Monday at Bell County, defeating the Lady Cats 25-20, 25-22 and 25-22 to improve to 4-0 in district action with matches against Middlesboro on Thursday and Harlan County on Monday to close out the regular-season district slate.
The Lady Dragons improved to 11-5 overall with a 25-23, 25-27, 23-25, 25-9 and 15-12 win Tuesday at Knox Central.
Defending district champ Harlan County continues to struggle, falling to Lee, Va., on Monday in three sets to drop to 2-16 on the season. The Lady Bears have lost nine straight matches, including five over the weekend at the First Priority Lady Colonel Volleyball Classic at Whitley County.
The one bright spot for HCHS is a 2-1 district record going into Wednesday’s night match against Bell.
