With several former Harlan County football stars providing instruction and a large group of young athletes in attendance, the annual Passing for a Purpose camp on Saturday at Coal Miners Memorial Stadium was another success story.

“This was our best one yet,” said Harlan County football coach Eddie Creech. “The turnout, the weather and functioning of the camp itself was the best it has been since we started this camp. I cannot thank everyone enough who made this day so special. The kids got some really good work in and heard some really valuable messages.”

Instructors included former Cumberland stars Charles Tinsley and Freddie Maggard and former Cawood standout Bucky Burkhart.

Players from Harlan County, Harlan, Hazard, Perry Central, Madison Southern and Thomas Walker, Va. participated in the camp. Creech said there were approximately 220 in attendance, including players, coaches and volunteers.

Proceeds were donated to the Cumberland Hope Community in Evarts.
