Clay County nips Sizemore, Bears in pitchers’ duel

An Enterprise Staff Report

For much of his first three seasons as a high school pitcher, Harlan County’s Jared Sizemore couldn’t lose as he recorded 22 wins in 25 decisions.

As a senior, Sizemore can’t find any breaks. He fell to 0-3 on the season despite giving up only two hits in a 1-0 loss Saturday at Clay County.

Clay’s Dylan Hicks won the pitchers’ duel as he limited the Bears to three hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. Sizemore was even more dominant, giving up two hits while striking out 12 and walking one.

Sean Johnson and Ethan Maggard each had doubles for the Bears. Benjamin Lewis added a single.

Matthan Fields had a double and John Sizemore singled for the Tigers.

Harlan County (6-7) plays at Knox Central on Monday. Clay County (9-6) travels to Oneida Baptist on Monday.
