Cawood opens season

with victory over Skins

Trailing by four midway through the first quarter, Cawood reeled off nine unanswered points and never looked back on the way to a 33-17 win Monday at Cawood in the season opener for both teams.

Madison Cole scored 10 points and Amber Irvin added nine to lead the Lady Comets.

Hannah Johnson led Cumberland with eight points.

Leann Engle scored eight points and Lauren Smith added seven as Cawood coasted to a 26-11 win in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.

Josalyn Lee paced the Lady Skins with five points.

Cumberland plays host to Evarts on Tuesday. Cawood travels to Black Mountain on Tuesday.

Black Mountain rolls

past Evarts in opener

Black Mountain opened its season with a 39-13 rout of visiting Evarts in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action Monday.

Alyssa Cochran scored 10 points to lead the Tigerettes.

Hayley Key paced Evarts with five points.

Jaylin Smith poured in 22 points as Black Mountain rolled to a 47-10 win in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.

Emma Mulkey scored eight to lead Black Mountain.

Madison Jones scored four as Evarts won 9-6 in the fourth-grade game.

Black Mountain returns to action Tuesday at home against Cawood. Evarts plays at Cumberland on Tuesday.
