Harlan County’s five seniors were honored before Thursday’s game against Lynn Camp, then spent much of the game making sure they would go out with a victory.
The Lady Bears had no trouble rolling past winless Lynn Camp (0-13) 25-7, 25-5, 25-4 as each of the seniors played key roles in the win.
“Tonight was our farewell to these girls who all have special qualities about them and have been leaders in helping us turn it around this season,” Harlan County coach Stacy Noe said. “I’m proud of all of them.”
Haley Blakley, one of the HCHS seniors, set the tone for the evening when she reeled off 13 straight service points, including nine aces. After Lynn Camp traded points with the Lady Bears, Valaree Day scored five straight service points, with three aces. Morgan Burke had four service points, then Elyse Turner finished the set with two service points.
The second set started much the same as Blakley ran off six service points. Natalie Middleton ran off eight service points, then Morgan Burke scored five straight.
All the seniors exited at the same time in the third set as the underclassmen finished the game.
The Lady Bears lost 25-9, 25-9, 25-10 on Tuesday at Knott Central in previously unreported acton.
Harlan County (10-7) closes its district schedule Monday at Bell County.
