Harlan’s run as an undefeated team ended Saturday in Louisville, but the Lady Dragons gained what coach Tara Posey hopes will be valuable experience during their four losses.

“Volleyball isn’t a popular sport in our area. In order to see that top-notch competition, it’s important for teams like us to make it to the state level,” Posey said. “We need that experience to learn and grow and to make contacts with people outside of the 13th Region. It would be amazing to have a facility here in Harlan like they do up in Lexington and Louisville, to be able to host various tournaments for all sports and get our kids linked to the connections they need to play at the next level. Most people can’t afford to travel two to three days a week to be on a traveling team to get the exposure they need. Many of the teams in the tournament play all over the country.”

Posey said only 15 of the Lady Dragons’ 23-girl roster were allowed to dress for state competition.

“I’m happy to say they all got to experience playing at the state level,” Posey said.

Emma Bianchi led Harlan in a 25-9, 25-9 loss to 16th Region champ Raceland with four digs and three kills. Taylor Smith had four digs and one set assist. Jesse Cochran contributed two blocks, two digs, one set assist and one kill. Callie Wilson had three digs and one ace. Jasmine Honeycutt contributed two digs and one block. Sydney Horton added one dig and one set assist. AnnMarie Bianchi contributed one dig.

In a 25-5, 25-5 loss to Presentation, Emma Bianchi led Harlan with one set assist, one dig and one kill. Cochran added one dig and one kill. AnnMarie Bianchi, Madison Middleton and Haven Saylor contributed one dig each. Smith had one set assist.

Cochran led Harlan in a 25-7, 25-10 loss to Bishop Brossart with two set assists, four digs and one kill. Middleton had two aces and three digs. Bianchi and Wilson added two kills each. Horton had one set assist. Honeycutt added a kill. Saylor contributed a dig.

In a 25-13, 25-16 loss to Lexington Christian, Cochran again led Harlan with eight kills, one dig and one set assist. Wilson had three aces and a dig. Emma Bianchi contributed three kills and one ace. Horton had two set assists. Smith and Honeycutt added one set assist each.
