Griffin, Jordan power Patriots in overtime win

Tanner Griffin had a block, then a run and finally a tackle on three big plays in overtime as New Harlan evened its record at 3-3 with a 16-14 overtime victory over visiting Pineville in fifth- and sixth-grade football action Tuesday.

Thomas Jordan scored on a 12-yard run in overtime, following a lead block by Griffin, to give the Patriots a 14-8 lead. Griffin bulled his way into the end zone for the two-point conversion.

Pineville scored in overtime but had to have the two-point conversion to force a second overtime. Griffin stopped the Pineville running back behind the line of scrimmage, then received plenty of help from his teammates to secure the win.

Jordan gave New Harlan an early lead when he scored on a 50-yard run, then added the two-point conversion.

Pineville tied the game in the second quarter with a touchdown and two-point conversion.

Griffin had two sacks late in the half to stop a Pineville drive.

Neither team was able to threaten in a scoreless second half.

New Harlan defeated Pineville 8-6 on Thursday at Pineville.

Thomas Jordan had the touchdown and two-point conversion for the Patriots.

Isaac Kelly had an interception and Riley Middleton recovered a fumble to lead the New Harlan defense.

The Perry Central Red Raiders rolled to a 36-6 win Saturday at Evarts in fifth- and sixth-grade football action.

Gus Mullins put the Raiders on the board with a 4-yard touchdown run after Ty Vinson’s 60-yard run. Hayden Canady threw to Phoenix Eddington for the two-point conversion.

Carter Turner returned an interception 14 yards for a touchdown to push the lead to 14-0.

Elijah Gayheart ran 22 yards for a touchdown, then Canady threw to Phoenix for a two-point conversion.

Mullins ran 55 yards for a touchdown, then kicked the extra point.

Ty Vinson returned an interception 65 yards for the last Perry Central touchdown. Mullins hit the extra point.

Canady completed six of eight passes for the Raiders.

Ryley Mefford threw to Chuckie Blackshire for a 40-yard touchdown pass for the only Evarts touchdown.

Evarts (1-4) plays at New Harlan on Tuesday. Perry Central (3-1) plays at Mountain View on Tuesday.
