Lewis sparks Rosspoint in a win over Trojanettes

Jacey Lewis hit three 3-pointers in the second quarter as Rosspoint outscored James A. Cawood 13-0 in the period on the way to a 43-19 victory Tuesday at JACES in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.

Lewis led 3-0 Lady Cats with 17 points.

Starr Hardy paced the 1-1 Trojanettes with seven points.

Ella Karst poured in 18 points as James A. Cawood (2-0) won 39-27 in fifth- and sixth-grade action.

Samantha Goshen led Rosspoint (2-1) with 15 points.

James A. Cawood travels to Black Mountain on Sept. 6. Rosspoint plays at Evarts on Sept. 6.

Hoskins powers Harlan to victory over Williamsburg

Led by a 22-point performance from Kelly Beth Hoskins, Harlan (4-4) coasted past visiting Williamsburg 35-20 on Tuesday in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.

Williamsburg edged Harlan 14-12 in the fifth- and sixth-grade game. Emma Owens led the 3-5 Lady Dragons with six points.

Harlan plays host to Middlesboro on Saturday.

Black Mountain coasts to win over Lady Skins

Kassady Mulkey scored 12 points as Black Mountain (1-2) rolled past visiting Cumberland 39-12 on Tuesday in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.

Tonjaneh Lee led Cumberland with six points.

Hanna Pace and Hannah Turner each scored eight as Black Mountain (3-0) won 30-12 in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.

Josalyn Lee paced Cumberland (1-3) with six points.

The Tigerettes won 10-0 in a fourth-grade game as Shaylea Lewis scored all 10 points.

Black Mountain returns to action Tuesday at home against James A. Cawood. Cumberland will play host to Wallins on Tuesday.

Key powers Lady Cats to victory over Cawood

Led by 13 points from Hayley Key, Evarts ran its record to 5-0 with a 40-25 win Tuesday over visiting Cawood.

Gracie Simpson paced the 3-1 Lady Comets with eight points.

Cawood defeated Green Hills 37-7 in previously unreported action from Monday. Willis Gailey scored 13 points and Lauren Smith added 10 for the Lady Comets.

Kylie Noe scored 10 as Cawood (3-1) won 27-17 in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.

Madison Jones led Evarts (1-4) with six points.

Evarts is at home against Rosspoint on Tuesday. Cawood plays host to James A. Cawood on Sept. 8.

Hunter Golf Scramble scheduled Saturday

The 10th annual Coach Charles Hunter and Maxine Hunter Golf Scramble will be held Saturday at the Harlan Country Club.

The cost is $60 per player or $200 per team. Prizes will be awarded for the top three teams. Donuts, coffee, lunch and cart fees are included.

Registration is at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start set at 9 a.m.

All proceeds go to the Coach Charles Hunter and Maxine Hunter Scholarship Fund.
