A big night from quarterback Demarco Hopkins, who had 328 of Evarts’ 481 total yards, sent the Wildcats to their second win in two games with a 42-28 victory Thursday over visiting Pineville in seventh- and eighth-grade football action.

Hopkins ran for 210 yards on 20 carries and scored three touchdowns. He also completed four of five passes for 38 yards and returned a kickoff 80 yards for a score.

Jayden Ward added 101 yards rushing and caught two passes for 20 yards.

Zach Potter had 50 yards on three carriers for two touchdowns, while also catching one pass for 10 yards.

Ward led the Evarts defense with eight tackles. Luke Carr had seven and Hopkins added six. Malachi Foster had an interception.

Evarts (2-0) returns to action Sept. 8 at Cumberland.

The Wildcats fell 14-6 in the fifth- and sixth-grade game. No other information was available.

Cumberland improved to 3-0 on the season with a 41-12 win against Stinnett at Leslie County High School.

Josh Swanner ran for three touchdowns in the first half as the Redskins built a 26-6 lead. Josh Whitehead added one touchdown and an extra point.

Tyler Flanary and Donovan Simmons added touchdowns in the second half.

Cumberland returns to action Tuesday at Williamsburg.
