Lady Dragons coast past Clay

Harlan opened its season with a 25-11, 25-14 win Monday at Clay County in a rematch of last year’s 13th Region Tournament opening round game.

Sidney Horton led the Lady Dragons with six aces, three set assists and one dig. Madison Middleton had four aces, two kills, two digs and one set assist.

Jesse Cochran also had a big game for Harlan with five kills, two blocks, three set assists and one ace. Jasmine Honeycutt added three kills and two set assists. Taylor Smith had two aces, two digs and two set assists. Callie Wilson added three kills and two digs.

The Lady Dragons coasted to a 21-9, 21-6 win in junior varsity action. Madison Middleton led Harlan with 10 aces and two kills. AnnMarie Bianchi contributed five aces. Courtney Cozart had three aces and one dig. Haven Saylor added four aces. Savanna Smith chipped in with one ace, one kill and one dig.

Harlan won 15-11, 15-7 in the freshman game. Abbi Witt led the Lady Dragons with four aces. Emma Fisher had three aces. Madison Middleton and Kailey Cornett added two each.

Harlan (1-0) and Clay County will meet again tonight, this time at Harlan.
