New Harlan built a big lead early and rolled to a 26-8 win Thursday at Middlesboro in middle school football action.
Matt Brown gave the Patriots an early lead when he raced 50 yards for a touchdown. Jordan Steele’s extra point made the score 7-0.
Hunter Blevins went 35 yards for a touchdown as the lead grew to 14-0 when Steele hit his second extra point.
Brown scored a second touchdown for the second straight game as he went 61 yards to make the score 20-0.
Josh Turner, a linebacker, returned a fumble 45 yards for a touchdown as the lead grew to 26-0.
James Gray had a fumble recovery to stop a Middlesboro drive.
Reserves finished the game for the Patriots. Middlesboro scored on a 6-yard touchdown pass as time expired, then added the two-point conversion on a run.
The Patriots’ defensive front, led by Hunter Helton, Steele, Kobe Burkhart and Brett Roark, dominated on the line of scrimmage and spent a lot of time in the Middlesboro backfield.
New Harlan (2-0) plays at North Pulaski on Aug. 20.
The Lynn Camp at Cumberland game scheduled for Thursday was postponed and rescheduled for Tuesday.
