The Harlan Ballers, an 8 and under youth baseball team, got off an impressive start in summer baseball competition, rolling to a 3-0 record during the East Kentucky Invitational at Shelby Valley.
Harlan pulled away late in the game for a 19-12 win over the Johnson County Yankees. Jackson Smith led the local team with a double and three singles. Bryce Mabes contributed a triple, double and a single. Eli Freyer pounded out two doubles and a single. Gunner Burkhart added a double and two singles. Landon Myers had a double and two singles. Jaxson Perry smashed an inside the park homer and a single. Brody Owens followed with three singles. Luke Luttrell added two singles, while Brayden Morris and Christopher Rouse contributed one single each.
Harlan rolled to an 18-4 win over the Millard Braves. Luttrell led the way for the Ballers with an inside the park homer and a single. Smith, Mabes, Freyer, Burkhart, Myers and Rouse were all perfect for the game, each with three hits. Perry added a double and a single. Owens had two singles, while Morris added one single.
After advancing to the championship game, the Harlan Ballers had a three-hour break to watch the competition. Harlan rolled to a 20-13 win in a rematch against Johnson County. Freyer and Myers led the way for the Ballers as each went four for four with an inside the park homer. Smith was also perfect with four singles. Burkhart had a double and two singles. Mabes singled three times. Rouse added a double and single. Perry, Owens, Morris and Luttrell contributed two singles each.
