HAZARD — The recent mastery of Area 4 by the Hazard/Perry All-Stars reached a new level of domination this week at Perry County Park.

Hazard/Perry pounded Harlan 32-0 on Monday and routed Tri-City 13-0 on Tuesday to capture the Area 4 title and a trip to the District 4 Tournament as one of four champions. Tri-City will play Harlan on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for second place and the area’s other berth in the eight-team district tournament.

Jaylen Turner was in control in the championship game, missing a perfect game by the slimmest or margins as he struck out the first 10 batters he faced before surrendering a one-out walk to Justin Moyers in the fourth inning. Turner struck out the next two to complete a no-hitter in the four-inning game with 12 strikeouts and one walk.

Hazard put up eight runs in the first inning and five in the third against Tri-City starter Nathan Shepherd, who gave up 10 hits in three innings. Moyers pitched one perfect inning in relief, retiring all three hitters he faced.

Wyatt Hensley hit a three-run homer in the second inning to lead the Hazard offense. Turner added a solo shot two batters later. Hunter Pigman and Luke Bellamy each added a double and single. Dave Elkins singled twice. Mason McAlarins and Hank Pelfrey added one single each.

Hazard had an even easier time Monday, scoring 13 runs in the first inning and 10 in the second in a rout of Harlan. Hazard collected 18 hits, led by Pigman with four hits, including a homer, and Elkins with three hits, including a homer.

Luke Bellamy struck out three, walked none and gave up one hit in two innings on the mound. Isaac Bellamy struck out all six hitters he faced.

Tristan Cooper had the only Harlan hit with a double in the second inning.

Tristan West, Noah Brewer, Brady Daniels and Bryce Helton shared mound duty for the Harlan All-Stars.
